The UK imports most of its fruit and a large share of its vegetables. Supply follows the sun: southern Europe and North Africa in winter and spring, the UK and northern Europe in summer, and the southern hemisphere in our autumn and winter.
Planning around these windows is the easiest way to buy better. Contracting the peak of an origin's season gets the best quality and price; buying the tail end of a season, or bridging two origins, is where problems cluster.
Our interactive seasonal calendar shows typical windows for every product we source. Use it to plan menus and promotions, and talk to us 6–10 weeks ahead of the window you want to buy into.
